Delicious Keto Pizza Chaffle Recipe
There are some things that are just too good to give up, and pizza is one of them. Pizza is not exactly low carb (and by that I mean it is full of carbs) which makes it difficult to eat while staying in ketosis. There are plenty of work arounds to this problem though, like our Tasty Keto Pizza With Homemade Sauce.
This keto pizza chaffle recipe also happens to be one of those work arounds, and it is currently our favorite keto pizza! If you like the crunch of a good thin crust pizza (or even the crunch of a well done deep dish) you will LOVE this keto chaffle pizza! It honestly tastes exactly like you’re eating the pizza you know and love from your pre-keto days.
Have you ever made a pizza bagel? Home made pizza bagels were one of my favorite things to make as a kid. I remember feeling like a little chef when I would make them. All I was really doing was slathering some pizza sauce on a bagel and topping it with a ton of mozzarella, but I really felt like I was “cooking.” This recipe really brought me back to those days for two reasons.
First of all, it tastes almost exactly like a crunchy bagel pizza. The crispiness of the chaffle tastes exactly like a well done bagel. Secondly, this recipe took me back to those days because of how simple this keto pizza chaffle is to make! It’s basically required the two basic steps of my childhood favorite.

What Is A Chaffle?
Chaffles have become super popular in the keto community lately, and for good reason. Chaffles are a super versatile bread replacement that can be used for a large variety of things. They can be used as a pizza crust (obviously), as sandwich bread, or even as a dessert!
A chaffle is really anything you want it to be, with a few modifications of course. We have used chaffles in a number of ways, like to make a Keto Peanut Butter Cup Chaffle, Best Oreo Keto Chaffles, or even a Keto Pumpkin Cheesecake Chaffle. And of course we have perfected the original chaffle with our Easy Traditional Keto Chaffle Recipe.
Savory Chaffles vs. Sweet Chaffles
There are basically two kinds of chaffles: savory and sweet. It’s hard to say if one kind is better than the other since they are both so good, so we will just talk about the great things that each kind of chaffle brings to the table.
As we already mentioned, savory chaffles are used in (you guessed it) savory recipes. There are sometimes uses as bread when making a sandwich, they are used as a pizza crust, or they are used in any other savory dish you prefer.
One of the greatest things about savory chaffles is that they tend to be a bit simpler and quicker to make. The most basic chaffle is just cheese and eggs, which means making it is as easy as cracking an egg and mixing it with some cheese. We’re talking about 30 seconds worth of work to make a meal. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Sweet Chaffles are definitely easy to make too, though they sometimes require a few additional ingredients. Still, though, making a sweet chaffle is as easy as mixing together a couple of ingredients and throwing it on an waffle iron.
Sweet chaffles can be used to make all kinds of things. One of our favorite chaffle recipes is a strawberry shortcake chaffle, and it is so good! It honestly tastes exactly like the strawberry shortcake you get at a festival!

Can You Make Chaffles Ahead And Freeze?
While we don’t really recommend freezing an already made pizza chaffle, you can certainly freeze the chaffles themselves and defrost them to make a chaffle pizza. Chaffles freeze extremely well and make for an awesome meal-prep food.
There are two basic ways in which you can freeze chaffles. The first way to freeze your chaffles is to wrap them individually in aluminum foil and freeze them that way. This requires the fewest number of steps, but can take a bit more time. The second, and probably the easiest all around way to freeze chaffles is to flash freeze them in the freezer on a baking sheet and then add them all into a plastic ziplock freezer bag.
The reason its best to flash freeze them first is because if you put them all into a ziplock while they’re still warm, the steam will eventually turn into water, and will cause all of your chaffles to freeze together. This will make it difficult to defrost just one chaffle at a time.
How To Make Chaffles Crispy?
There are a couple of tricks that will help make your keto chaffle pizzas extra crispy, with will lead to a crispier pizza crust. The first way to make chaffles crispy is to sprinkle a little extra cheese on your waffle maker before you pour in the batter. This of course will lead to a crispy later of cheese on top of your chaffle. Then after your pour in your batter, sprinkle a little extra cheese on top and then cook. This will lead to a crispier chaffle.
Another way to make chaffles crispy is to simply make sure you are letting them cook long enough. Your chaffle will appear to be done within a minute or so of cooking, but it will not really be completely cooked and certainly not crispy unless you allow it to cook the full amount of time.
Then, once your chaffle is finished cooking, make sure you let it rest for at least a minute or thereabout so that the steam can release. After that, you should have a really crispy chaffle perfect for a pizza chaffle!
Best Mini Waffle Maker For Chaffles:
Initially, a mini waffle maker seemed like a waste of money. After all, how many times have you ever thought to yourself, “I could really go for a mini waffle right now”? Probably never.
However, for this recipe, a mini waffle maker is super important because it is the perfect size to make your keto pizza chaffle crust.
Since the chaffle has become so popular, it is getting increasingly difficult to find mini waffle makers in a local store, so we recommend looking at Amazon. Of all the mini waffle makers, we recommend the DASH Mini Waffle Maker. It’s only $10 which is unbeatable!!

Ingredients Needed For Keto Pizza Chaffle
To make your keto chaffle pizza crust, all you will need is an egg, some mozzarella cheese, coconut flour, baking powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and some salt. There is a really good chance that you already have all of this stuff in your kitchen right now, which means you are only minutes away from this awesome keto chaffle pizza!
To start, simply mix together all of your ingredients and pour them onto your mini waffle maker.
This recipes makes two mini pizza chaffles so be sure to split the batter in two. You don’t want to overfill the waffle maker or it will spill over!
Once your chaffles are cooked, simply add some pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and whatever other toppings you can prefer. Then pop your chaffles into the oven for a few minutes and you are good to go!

Best Low Carb Marinara Sauce To Use?
Any keto pizza sauce is good, but we prefer to use Rao’s marinara sauce. It is keto friendly, tastes great, and comes in a number of varieties. Rao’s also has a pizza sauce available, but we haven’t tried it and we aren’t currently aware of it’s macros.
If you don’t want to buy a special sauce for this recipe, consider making the sauce that we used for our Tasty Keto Pizza With Homemade Sauce. Our homemade sauce tastes great and it is so easy to make. It’s also keto friendly, of course.
Variations To Keto Pizza Chaffle Recipe:
- Use tomato paste instead of Rao’s Marinara sauce
- Use egg whites from one egg instead of using the whole egg in the chaffle. I’ve heard this helps to make the chaffle taste less “eggy”.
- Add different pizza toppings to your preference.

Delicious Keto Pizza Chaffle RecipePrint
|1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese|
|1 tsp Coconut Flour|
|1/4 tsp Baking Powder|
|1/8 tsp Garlic Powder|
|1/8 tsp Italian Seasoning|
|Pinch of Salt|
|1 tbsp Rao's Marinara Sauce|
|1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese|
|3 Pepperoni's, cut into four|
|Shredded Parmesan Cheese, optional|
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Preheat waffle maker as well.
In a small bowl, combine egg, mozzarella cheese, coconut flour, baking powder, garlic powder, italian seasoning, and salt.
Pour half of the chaffle mixture into the center of the waffle iron. Allow to cook for 3-5 minutres.
Carefully remove and repeat for second chaffle.
Top each chaffle with sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni.
Place chaffles on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 4-5 minutes and broil for 1 minute afterwards.
Remove and sprinkle some parsley or basil if desired. Enjoy!
