Keto Low Carb Lasagna Bowls (Single-Serve Bowls)

Introduction

Lasagna is a favorite for many people! It is a staple in most homes, and for good reason! Lasagna tastes delicious, and can be relatively easy to make. The only problem with traditional lasagna is, well, lasagna.

Lasagna is the name of the dish, but it is also the name of the noodles in the dish. So we have technically made a low carb lasagna without lasagna. I’m pretty sure we’re still allowed to call it lasagna though.

This keto low carb lasagna is great because it has everything you love about lasagna, so you loose almost none of the flavor of a traditional lasagna. Let’s be honest, there are so many great flavors in lasagna that the noodles really aren’t that important.

With all the flavor of a traditional lasagna but without all the carbs, this is the best quick dinner recipe out there!

What Makes These Lasagna Bowls Low Carb

As I said above, the lack of noodles is primarily what makes this low carb lasagna low carb. However, there are a few other things too, like the use of a low carb and low sugar marinara sauce.

Noodles are delicious, there is no denying that, but you don’t need them to make a delicious lasagna! This low carb lasagna has all of the bold flavors of a lasagna all while being super low in carbs and sugar.

This is the perfect low carb Italian dinner!

Low Carb Friendly Marinara Sauce

Mariana makes an Italian dish. The quality and the flavor of your marinara will singlehandedly determine if an Italian dish is good or not.

Marinara sauce provides the bulk of the flavor in almost any dish it is in, and this low carb lasagna is no acception.

This is why it is so important to find the right marinara sauce. An added challenge for anyone looking for a marinara while on keto is that you have to find one that both tastes delicious, and is low in sugar and carbs.

Obviously, marinara is made with tomatoes. Tomatoes are a healthy addition to any diet, but they also contain a bit of natural sugar. The amount of sugar in a tomato is pretty small though, meaning you would have to have a toooonnn of tomatoes before you were kicked out of ketosis.

The problem with most marinaras is not the tomatoes, but the added sugar. If you have been living the keto lifestyle for any time at all, you have definitely noticed that almost all foods have added sugar in some form or another. This makes it almost impossible to eat any foods not made from scratch.

Luckily though, Rao’s Homemade Marinara Sauce is super low in sugar and carbs, and tastes great too! This marinara will make your low carb lasagna taste great without adding any unwanted sugars or carbs!

Best Tips For These Low Carb Lasagna Bowls

  • What to Serve With Lasagna Bowls

You have to serve garlic bread with lasagna. It is probably the law in most countries. So, in order not to break the law, and especially to maximize your enjoyment of this dish, make our Cheesy Keto Garlic Bread or our Keto Italian Garlic Breadsticks. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Also, salad pairs well with Lasagna. Why not serve up a romaine salad with a nice Italian dressing or this lovely Keto Blue Cheese Dressing?

  • Swapping Out Sausage

I get it, not everyone loves sausage. Personally, I’m not a huge fan either, but it is great in this dish. If you want to swap out the Italian sausage in this dish, you could exchange it for almost anything. More cheese is never a bad choice. Ground beef goes great in lasagna. Or, if you want something a bit different, consider replacing sausage with some shredded chicken. The options are endless, you can add whatever suits your fancy.

  • Reheating The Lasagna Bowls

This recipe makes two mini low carb lasagna’s, so if you end up with an extra, don’t worry! This recipe reheats super well!

The easiest way to reheat this dish is in the microwave. I’m not a huge fan of the microwave in general, but it’s quick and easy and usually get’s the job done.

Microwave your lasagna for about 2 minutes and it should be heated throughout.

If you want to reheat this keto low carb lasagna in the oven, it is just as easy, it just requires a bit more patience. I recommend placing some aluminum foil over your dish when you reheat it so that your melted cheese does not burn. Then, about 3-5 minutes before it’s time to remove your low carb lasagna from the oven, remove the aluminum foil so that the cheese gets a little more melty.

Reheat at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes.

  • Storing The Low Carb Lasagna Bowls

These low carb lasagna bowls are easy to keep in the fridge. After they’ve cooled down,  just cover them with aluminum foil and pop them in the fridge. They should be good for about 2 days in the fridge.

Alternatively, you can store this low carb lasagna in an airtight container and last up to 3-4 days. The only problem with this could be reheating if your container is plastic.

  • Other Lasagna Add-Ins:

We already talked about replacing the Italian sausage in this dish, but we should also talk about adding in some other yummy ingredients.

If you really think you will miss the texture and feel of noodles in this dish, consider adding some zucchini noodles. Obviously they will not taste or act the same as a traditional lasagna noodle, but they could be close enough that it satisfies your noodle craving.

If you want a bit of extra flavor, add some bacon bits to your low carb lasagna. Bacon is good in anything so you can’t go wrong. Bacon will make this recipe a bit more savory and salty, which should compliment the dish well.

As usual, you can add almost anything to this dish and it will still be great. Feel free to add whatever low carb items you would normally include in a lasagna. You really can’t mess thus recipe up!

  • Use Oven Safe Bowls:

It goes without saying, but make sure that you only use oven safe bowls for this recipe! Not all bowls are safe in the oven. Your typical cereal-type bowl should fair ok in the oven, but make sure you double check before you place anything in the oven. Trust me, the last thing you want to do is clean up a shattered bowl from your oven.
