Keto Spinach Christmas Tree Bread
Introduction
Keto Spinach Christmas Tree Bread is the ultimate holiday party dish, appetizer at a get together, or fancy snack. This easy recipe is a crowd pleaser that you’ll want to make year after year.
The holidays are upon us, and I’m convinced that it really is the most wonderful time of the year. The excitement of exchanging gifts, the warmth of being with family, and (maybe best of all) tons of delicious food. But the holidays can be difficult if you’re sticking to a ketogenic diet.
While there are a ton of great keto alternatives and low carb options for the holidays, like our Low Carb Keto Peppermint Cookies and our Keto Eggnog, there are never enough. But we think this Keto Spinach Christmas Tree Bread is a great recipe to add to your holiday collection.
This keto spinach Christmas tree bread is perfect for Christmas parties, family get togethers, and even as a Christmas Day snack. We have a friend who would always make a spinach Christmas tree at our annual Christmas party and it was always a hit! It’s what inspired this recipe (and don’t tell her, but we think it’s just as good – if not better – than the traditional version!).
Dough for Keto Spinach Christmas Tree
The traditional version of this recipe uses a pizza dough or croissant dough which is, sadly, full of carbs and even some sugars. Instead of these carby doughs, this recipe calls for the use of Fat Head dough which is a very low carb alternative dough that works amazingly well in a number of keto friendly recipes. Some of our favorite uses of fathead dough are to make Keto Cinnamon Pretzels or Low Carb Keto Italian Garlic Breadsticks.
Fat Head dough is really easy to make. It’s basically just cheese and almond flour. That might not sound super appetizing, but trust us, it’s really, really great! And it really does end up with a super similar taste and texture to a traditional dough.

Add the butter to a skillet over medium heat. Stir in the garlic and saute for 30 seconds.
Mix in the spinach, and cook until wilted. Remove from the heat and let cool.
In a bowl that is microwave safe, combine the mozzarella and cream cheese. Heat for 30 seconds at a time until melted and well combined into a dough.
Add the cheese dough to a mixing bowl with the almond flour, baking powder, xanthan gum, ¼ tsp of the garlic powder, ¼ tsp of the Italian seasoning, pinch of salt, egg and flaxseed meal. Beat on high until well combined.
Divide the dough in half, and roll each half into a rectangular shape that is roughly the same size as the other.
On one half of the dough, spread the spinach mixture all over the surface.
Place the other layer of dough over the first, and press the edges closed.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out the outline of a Christmas tree. Make small cuts on each side of the tree in the same position as the other. Twist each cut piece of dough to form branches. You can form the extra pieces of dough and filling that you cut off into balls to serve alongside the tree for zero waste. Top with the remaining garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Tastes best fresh out the oven, enjoy!
How To Serve Keto Christmas Tree Bread
This is a dish best served warm. It tastes best when cheese is still hot and melty and the dough is still warm and flakey.
How you serve this dish is entirely based on preference. Traditionally, the “branches” of the free are pulled off and eaten as desired. However, because of Covid, it may be best to go ahead and have the branches pre-cut if serving at a party or a get together. Theres really no wrong way to serve this dish!
We love to enjoy this keto spinach Christmas tree bread with some marinara as a dipping sauce. Rao’s makes our all-time favorite marinara sauce because 1) it tastes really, really good, and 2) because it’s lowest in carbs and sugars. You can very easily fit this dipping sauce into your daily macros without thinking twice about it.
Can You Freeze Keto Spinach Christmas Tree Bread?
Sure! This keto spinach Christmas tree bread can be easily stored in the freezer. As always, make sure to use an airtight container to maintain freshness.
For best results, we recommend reheating this keto spinach Christmas tree bread in the oven. The microwave is convenient, but you may end up with dough that is just a little too doughy. The oven will maintain the crispiness of the dough.
